Antje is the co-founder and CEO of SmarterBetterCities, and has a strong background in architecture and information visualisation. The company focuses on topics she knows well from her PhD research in the field of participatory urban planning at the Department of Architecture at ETH Zürich.
Her main focus is opening up urban modeling and simulation to enrich participatory planning processes with interactive digital design feedback.
As the co-founder and CTO of SmarterBetterCities, Jan contributes know-how of GIS-based procedural city modeling and information visualization of large-scale city models. His experience in procedural modeling with ESRI’s CityEngine dates back to the early days of this software.
Jan is currently finalizing his PhD focusing on simplification of urban microclimate models. He studies the integration of urban physics calculations in a 3D modeling environment, providing instant feedback to the users on the developed models.
Michael joined SmarterBetterCities in 2013 as a co-founder and brought his extensive knowledge in computer graphics, artificial intelligence and user interface design. He is the head of software development and manages the R&D team in Zurich.
He received his PhD from the Computer Vision Laboratory at ETH Zurich, where he worked on various renowned research projects as a PhD student and as a Postdoc. He is an expert in user interface design and human-computer interaction.
Grete has been on board with SmarterBetterCities as 3D product engineer from the very beginning. She is responsible for 3D modeling and visualization. She holds a Master degree in architecture and city planning, and a Master of Advanced Studies degree in Computer Aided Architectural Design.
Grete has studied planning and building processes in Switzerland and Estonia and is passionate in searching ways to explicate that in visual forms.
Sandro wrote his Master thesis at SmarterBetterCities developing an interactive user interface for mobile tablets. He is now working as a software engineer with a focus on the CloudCities web viewer and live scene updating.
He holds a Master degree in Electrical Engineering & Information Technology from ETH Zurich. He is highly interested in information technology including topics such as computer vision and interactive mobile applications but also energy related fields like photovoltaics and smart building technologies.
Sander joined SmarterBetterCities in early 2015. He has several years of experience as a GIS software engineer and a spatial ETL specialist. Now, he has joined the CloudCities development team to incorporate advanced GIS functionality.
Sander holds a Master degree in Geo-Information Science from Wageningen University (WUR) and has gained experience with interactive planning support and modelling systems at the Dutch Institute of Applied Research (TNO). He has a keen eye for cartography and mapping and he is passionate about smart spatial data conversions.
